For this assignment I watched the show Secrets and Lies. It is a show that I had recorded because the previews looked good. I just did not have the chance to watch it yet.
The first time I watched it I had the sound on mute. The beginning of the show looked like he was running for help. He looked like he was in a hurry. The guy looked very scared. He runs into a house and the girl who opened the door look very confused. It then went too a different scene and the guys face looked like he was wondering why anyone would do this. We found out that he found a little boy that was killed. The guy then was walking back through his neighborhood and his neighbors looked concerned for him. From watching it mute there were a lot of different emotions that I saw. I was able to see how everyone is related.
After I watched the show with the sound on. The emotions that I recognize were correct. I feel that it was not hard to recognize the feelings on mute.Especially since I saw the police and the body of the little boy. Who would not be sad, angry and concerned when there is a body of a little boy.
I feel that if I watched the show prior to this assignment I would have been more bias in my write up.
Hi Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteI was able to identify emotions and feelings fairly well when I did this experiment also. I am not sure if it would be so easy in real life, but on television when everything is very dramatic I found it easy. I thought it was much more interesting to watch the show with sound even though it made sense without sound. What do you think? -Mary
Hi Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteI had a hard time identifying emotions while watching a children's comedy show with my little sister. I have seen the show Secrets and Lies on ABC and I do remember the first episode that you are talking about, I do believe watching a drama like this show would be fairly easy to identify the characters emotions and plot of the story.
You mention that you would have felt more biased if you had the opportunity of watching this show with sound, what do you mean by this?
Hello Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteI was also able to infer many things from the facial expressions and the body language of the characters. They told me a lot about what was happening on this particular episode. I think having the sound on was definitely better. I do think it helps not having too much knowledge prior to watching the show. It keeps you guessing about what could be going on, who the characters are, and how they are related
