I had a homemade kitchen. I could not find one that even looked close to it. It was really basic but I loved it.

When I was younger we had a sandbox with a play house built above it and it had swings attached to it.

When I was a child I always played with my siblings and neighbor hood friends. My family supported me by letting me have friends over, letting me go to friends house and letting me just have fun.
I think play is so much different now then when I was a child. When I was a child we played little house on the prarie. We were outside all the time. We did not have all the technology children have now.
Little House on the Prairie books were my favorites! I've read them to all my children! So fun that you acted it out in play! I also do not know a kid that does not love to swing. It is so fun to see those little faces light up as their tummies start to tickle!
ReplyDeleteCheryl,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you that the way we played as children is much different in comparison to how children today play. I think that children are allowed to use too much technology and are not encouraged to play enough. I believe another reason children are not engaging in free play is due to safety concerns of the parents. I remember leaving the house in the morning, going home for lunch, and then returning to play until supper. Unfortunately, we do not live in a safe enough world to just send children out to play. As a mother, I try to encourage pretend play, but I think it is difficult when adults are hanging around. Children need to be provided with an area that they are safe to play and explore with other children.
Hi Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteI always played outside until dark with the neighbors too! We loved to go exploring in the wilderness and played long games of baseball and capture the flag. I loved play houses when I was younger also. I agree that play seems very different now then when I was younger but I believe children still have the same need and desire for play. It is very important for parents and caregivers to nurture the opportunities for play and make sure that children get out there and do it anytime they can! -Mary
