Insights that I have had during this course is how to do research. I also learn how to read journal articles. That you only have to read a few sections and not the whole journal article. That was nice because it cut down the reading time.

To be honest my idea about during research have not changed. Coming onto this course I stated that I did not like to do research. I stated that I was open for that to changed. After taking this course I still do not like doing research. It is not my cup of tea. Research is not for everyone.

I have learned so much about research in this class. I have learned that there are different designs in research. I never knew that before I always thought it was all the same. I knew there were different ways to conduct research but never realized what they were and when to do the different ways.

The challenges I encountered was trying to stay interested in the course. Research is not for me and that made it very hard to actually sit down and so my homework. What made me get through it is know that this is a course and that I may still learn things even if I do not like research.

I do not really think my perception has changed in the early childhood profession. I feel that is very important just as I did before the course. I still feel research needs to be done by the people that love research. I also still feel that that is still a lot to learn about the early childhood field.

Research around the world

I have chosen to look at the website called Early Childhood Development Virtual University Sub-Saharan Africa. This website can be found at the following link http://www.ecdvu.org/ssa/index.php

There are many researches projects being conducted at this university. Some of which include the following:
* Supervision of early childhood education in Ghana
*Perception of early childhood development needs in education
*Involving fathers in early childhood education
*Programs and policies that support childcare for working families

When exploring early childhood websites you can gain a lot of knowledge. I enjoyed looking at this website. One insight that I have is that there are early childhood school outside of the United States. I never really thought about that and never knew where to look. I felt like this website is much different then what websites I am use. I know this website is for the university. If you go to any university website in the the United States it is very easy to move around. This website did not have much information on why to choose that university. It was not catchy either it was all white and black.

Research that Benefits Children and Families—Uplifting Stories

I have never been part of a research project but I do think it would be a awesome experience for me and the children I teach. I would be very interested in the results of what ever the research project was.
There are many topics out there that would make a good research project. If I was able to conduct a research project I would do it on home based programs vs. center based programs. Working with Head Start we offer both home based and center based. I would want to see which one is better or are they equal. I know the home-based programs have socialization groups but it is not required for the parents to bring their child there. I think the main thing that is learn in preschool is social skills. I feel that children in home base programs would not get that even if they attend the play groups because it is not an every day thing.
I am not against home based programs because I do think it is best that the children get some education if their parents are unable to take them to the school. I think a positive outcome of this research project would be having more socialization times. Possibly requiring the parents to attend if they want to be part of the program.  It could also work out that home base programs are just as effective as center based programs. That could lead to Head Start programs offering more home based programs. Where I work Early Head Start have many home visitors but in Head Start we only have one home visitor that covers all of the county I live in. She can only offer services to twelve children. Proving that it is effective could make it so more children receive services.

Critical Consumers of Research—Standards and Guidelines

I have chosen the topic of social-emotional development. I have chosen this topic because I feel that social-emotional development is what preschool is all about. I feel that if you do not succeed in social-emotional development you with have a tough time in your future years. The subtopic that I am currently using is teaching emotions to children who have autism.
I have never really had to do a major research project. I not saying I have never research anything but not into the extent of following a the process of research. I have had personal experience with social-emotional development. As a preschool teacher I see many children who are still developing in the social-development area. One of my preschoolers was really far behind when she first came to my classroom. Her doctor was thinking she may have autism but on the very low scale. I had her last year and she has grown so much. Though she is very attached to me she is getting better with other teachers. This has shown me that I can give children the right environment so they can succeed in future years.
Using the research chart has help me gain more knowledge about the research project. Also it is helping me understand the terms that are in research.
Do you have any good resources for social-development?

Final Post

While I was reading the instructions on this assignment I read that we had to write three consequences of contacting an international contact. At first I was thinking I did not have any bad experiences contacting my professional. Then I looked at the definition and realized that it could be good experiences that I took from contacting the professional. The following are my consequences that I had contacting a international contact.

1. I became more aware of what goes on in China. I knew they had poverty but their poverty seems much harsher then our poverty.

2. It shocked me that they do projects to make it look like the children are learning when officials come in. I always thought they were way smarter then Americans. So it made me more aware on what I do when I have people observe me.

3. It makes me want to go explore the different cultural and then open a multi-cultural preschool.

My goal for international contact is to stay in contact with him every now and then just to compare issues on what is going in in his country and compare it to our country.

  • What issues regarding quality and early childhood professionals are being discussed where you live and work?
In China everything is about face, I cannot stress that enough and it is practiced from the top of the government down. I wouldn't say the principal doesn't care about early childhood development but I would say she cares more about the school's and her image first. Twice a year people from the board of education would visit the school. For the weeks leading up to the visit the school switched from actual learning to making it appear like they have been learning. They will have the kids do hurried art projects, a few of them a day, sometimes cutting out my English class completely just to make some fake project that made them look like they knew some English. It reminded me of the scene in Matilda when they saw the principal coming and hid all the pictures and painting behind drab curtains except here it was the opposite. "Make them look like we did stuff". Sometimes the teachers, who are 18-20 years old and bend to the principal's every demand, will sleep over night at the school to "finish" the kid's art projects. It would not surprise me if the principal also slipped these inspectors some money on the side. So in conclusion all I know is what I saw at my school. I know the parents are eager for their kids to start learning, especially English, as young as possible so they have a chance to compete for a good college. I don't think they actually know what is going on behind the scenes though. My school made it a rule not to let parents in the front door. As long as it appears like they are learning the parents are happy and if they are not learning it must be the child's fault.

  • What opportunities and/or requirements for professional development exist?
For a white English teacher from America you have China in the palm of your hand. You literally can work in any city at any level. If you have more experience you can earn better pay and have better chances of teaching in better schools. Me and most people that came to Beijing over the years had 0 experience teaching and 0 experience with little kids. But I learned and after 3 years my salary grew. It grows even more now. I have my resume posted on websites and I still get emails from schools all over China. They want to pay me 20,000RMB ($3,170) a month which is like double what I was making. It's because demand is skyrocketing at light-speed and because I have 3 years experience. I could teach at University level, but the problem with that is that you would make like 8,000RMB a month but the hours are shorter and you have to make dreaded lesson plans, yuck. I'll stick with singing ABC's and playing games for 20,000. I worked at a recruiting company that works with schools all over the city. They train the teachers, sometimes, and send them out to the schools. These companies are popular and an easy way to find work. I was trained with a large group before the school year started for 2 weeks. People who come -mid-semester might get a few days or no training and propped up in front of a class before they can get over jet-lag. You also have the opportunity to tutor kids on the side. I tutored some of my students and their parents. I could make a cool 3,000RMB on Sunday alone. Enough to pay all expenses for the month and then some. I also had a job at a training center where I taught a few classes of 20 kids. The opportunities are literally endless with little to no experience required, where else can you find a deal like that?

  • What are some of your professional goals?
Although I took my job seriously in China my real goal was to become a screenwriter. My stay in China was a way to make ends meet while I wrote my scripts, but it became a bigger part of me. China sucked me in. I have thought about going back if I wasn't ready to make it as a screenwriter yet. If I did go back I would rather not teach classes but be a trainer for new English teachers. The pay is great and all I do is watch, evaluate, and give advice.

  • What are some of your professional hopes, dreams, and challenges?
I have been living in L.A. for over a year now trying to push my screenplays through the door. I landed an agent finally and last week a producer optioned one of my scripts. So I am very happy about that and where it might lead. After I get in the door I would have a great paying job where I can from anywhere and have tons of free time. I really want to go back to Beijing. Maybe see more of China or just get an apartment in Beijing and live there for a few months out of the year. Maybe I'll go back to teaching just for the experience of it. I think you get a deeper, richer, more intimate understanding of China when you work there, especially with children. You get the opportunity to be invited to the children's house for holidays and help them make new year dumplings, and be taken on trips outside the city, stuff you cannot do when you just visit. The funny thing is, through all of my experience in China, I come back to the states and cannot find a teaching job because here there are strict requirements. You need certificates and early childhood development degrees and the cost of living here is high. It is a much better deal to do it in China where you can make at the very least, five times more than a Chinese teacher. Haha, I really felt bad when the Chinese teachers would show me their pay stub for 1,200RMB a month when they do everything in the class; cleaning, feeding, teaching, crafts. I teach two classes for 45 minutes then play and I made 11,000RMB. It's good work if you can get it.

My insights:

It suprises me that they hiring almost anyone to teach. I always thought they had high qualified teachers. Chinese people are seems to be way more knowledgeable then were are.
I also would like to take this time to thank Kyle who was willing to email me back and fourth what a great experience.

I have found many things that are helpful on the NAEYC website. I still want to become a member but I am not able to become a member at this time. One of the links that I followed were to the affiliates of NAEYC. I knew Michigan had MiAEYC but I had know idea that each region of Michigan had a local chapter. Looking at the chair people of the chapter I know a lot of them. I would like to contact them and see how to become involved.

With me wanting to be part of a member of the NAEYC I decided to search the benefits section of the website. I saw that there is three benefit packages. They all offer the same thing but only one of them offers six cutting edge books. Digging further into this they list six reason why to become a member.

I have signed up for a newsletter but have not yet received any newsletter yet. I am not sure if something went wrong while filling out the form.

The website does have things for equity and excellence in Early Childhood. They show training's and different articles for professionals to read.

I did not see anything pertaining to different languages but I did find things pertaining to different ethics.

My international contact has not yet emailed me back about excellence and equality in China. This has surprised me because he has been emailing me every week.  From reading our past emails I came up on what I think the issues on excellence and equality is in China. I am hoping that he does email be back later this week so I can get his insight about it.

From reading the past emails that we have been exchanging I think that the rich children gets a very high education and the poor children do not get a great education. The children who have rich families pay for a private school for the children to go to. Where the children in the poor families have to go to the public schools which sometimes are not the greatest in China.

Not only do the children who are in the low income families have lower quality schools but they also have a rough living situation. They are taught at a very early age to beg and sell things. I keep going back to the place where the family lived inside their store. All they had was bed with a curtain covering the bed.

Most of these families did not have running water. I can not even imagine not having running water. You would not be able to do simple things like wash your hands, or even flush the toilet. I have very high credit for those families.

NAEYC website

I am learning more and more about NAEYC each week. This week I was exploring the professional development tab. This section I feel is current for what I am currently doing. It had all different types of training's that I could attend. They even do webinars which I never knew. The online training are perfect for me because of how busy I am.

I was interested in reading about how to change your holiday lesson plan so it meets everyone in the program. Though it did not change my way of thinking because some of the things the mention to do I already do. For example have dress up clothes for children who is not able to get a costume for Halloween. Another idea what having them make their own costumes in the classroom. I have done both these and they turn out great.

I did not find anything about what the government thinks about early childhood education. I did find a statement from NAEYC from 2013 saying that we have to push the government on investments of early childhood that they are looking at the wrong investments of early childhood.

Another incite that I gain is to always look back at the websites. The websites change often to add the most up to date information. We all know that things are always changing we just do not always follow up and see what is changing before it is to late. Going to this website on a weekly basis will keep you current.

Poverty in China

I was unable to find anyone in a different country to talk to for these next 8 weeks. My sister knew someone who taught in China for 2 years that said he would be willing to help me out. His name is Kyle he taught kindergarten in China for 2 years. He now is living back in the United States but knows enough to help me out this assignment.

This week I asked him about poverty in China. In Beijing there is a huge difference from rich and poor. Here in the United States they are normally located in different locations. "The school I worked at was a private school but just on the other side of the fence were slums"(Carmean,2014). Every morning he went and bought bottled coffee from a little shanty store. They was a mother, father and son that owned the store. They also lived in the store. There was only one bed and only a curtain separated the bed from the store. They had no running water. Where he lived there were many of these stores."There was a public restroom and shower that these people used and when you walk by them in the summer the stench is something  that can't  be described. I did have the misfortune of going inside one before. No stalls and holes in the ground, which is common but these were the crudest most vile receptacles I've ever laid eyes on. One could literally rub elbows with the person next to him"(Carmean, 2014).

Since he worked at a private school he did not teach any children that were in poverty but the bar district would be filled with them. The children would come up to you and sell flowers or just beg. It was very sad from him to see this but these children were trained to do this. The adults would also beg but was always accompanied by a child. "A big difference is that they don't beg like American beggars beg. They are quiet, never aggressive. As for the poor people, they are always happy"(Carmean, 2014).

They were always happy even though they did not have much. He loved going to their restaurants because they had the best food and they were always very nice to their customers.

It is amazing how poverty is so different in other countries. I am glad to hear that they are so happy in China. For me it opened up my eyes that you may not have anything but you can always be happy.

My links

I wrote my last blog stating that I have chosen the website Center for Child Care Workforce. Since then I have been looking into the other site more. I found out I could ask to receive the newsletters from NAEYC for free of charge. So I am not going to look at both of those websites.
The link for the Center for Child Care Workforce is http://www.ccw.org/
The link for NAEYC is http://www.naeyc.org/

I have not received any newsletters from either of the company. Today I received an newsletter from the MAEYC. Which is the the Michigan Association for Early Childhood Education. This association is made to gear towards Michigan but off of NAEYC. One issue that the newsletter talked about was revising the per-pupil formula. It is in the process of being approved in the Senate.

The issue on the Center for Child Care Workforce that I have chosen from their website is Worthy Wages. This is an initiative that they have created to get the word out there that early childhood education does matter. They are asking people to have events for Worthy Wages Day which is May 1st.

Contacting an Early Childhood Professional

I had a hard time getting in contact with an Early Childhood Professional from a different country. I emailed all of the people in the Asia and Africa section on the NAEYC website. Most of the emails came back to me saying email failed. When asking my technology guy at my work he said it may be because they do not have the same software as us. That our systems may not be compatible with theirs. About five emails went through but I did not get a reply from any of them. I going to keep on trying to contact other professionals from the different countries that were on the list. My sister however has a friend that taught kindergarten in China for two years. He is going to help me out with the best of his ability.
The website I have chosen was the center for childcare workforce. The reason I choose this is you can sign up to receive emails from them. I am also specialization in public policy and advocacy. This website seems that it has a lot of information about it. I would love to be part of NAEYC or National Head Start but I do not have the money for the membership. I can't wait to explore this website more in depth.

My Supports

Support is something everything needs. I feel my supports are not object but there are multiple people.

My biggest supporter is my husband Bryant. He is there threw think and thin. There are many times I come home stress out because I have so much work to do. He is the one that keeps me calm.

My second supporter for my career is my co-workers. They are always there for me. Giving me ideas to do with the children. They are also their as a resource when I need help.

I also believe Facebook is a big support to me. There I connect with past classmates and professsors. It is nice to stay in contact with them.

With out any of the people above I feel I would not be as strong of a teacher I am now. We are all who we are and our supports have been the ones to help is get where we are. If it was not for them the impact might of been me giving up. Especially this past year I had a really challenging year.

To come up with a challenge that I have not faced yet is very hard. I know there are many more challenges to come but I can not think if them. This past year I had a death of a dad in my classroom, a child being taken out of her home, a child that hurt me and my co-worker that we had to be seen by a doctor, a parent accusing me and my co worker of things, parents in prison and a parent going to jail for a few weeks. So even though there are many challenges ahead of me I can not really think of any that I have not faced. This past year was rough but I would not have it any other way. It just made me a better teacher. I now know things I could have done differently and things that I did good. So my supports for all these challenges were the above ones listed.

My Connections to Play

"Every path has it's puddles"

"My curfew as a child was when the street lights came on"

I had a homemade kitchen. I could not find one that even looked close to it. It was really basic but I loved it.

When I was younger we had a sandbox with a play house built above it and it had swings attached to it.

When I was a child I always played with my siblings and neighbor hood friends. My family supported me by letting me have friends over, letting me go to friends house and letting me just have fun.

I think play is so much different now then when I was a child. When I was a child we played little house on the prarie. We were outside all the time. We did not have all the technology children have now.

Relationship Reflection

Having a postive relationship is important for people. Postive relationships can help you when you are having a tough time. The following people are people I have a great relationship with. They have been there for me and help me get through tough times.

This is my husband Bryant. We have been together since 2006. This relationship is positive because he is a great listener. He fully supports me in anything I do even if its not something he agrees with. In the same way some challenges is also us having different views on things. We get through these challenges is just listening to each other and compromising.

The above is my family. I also have a positive relationship with all of them. We are always there for each other. We all have our own lives but when it comes right down to it we are always there for each other. Some of the challenges we face is living in different states.

Everyone above is their for me even in my professional career. If I need something they find a way for me to get it. They are all supporting me going back to school.

Testing for Intelligence?

Testing is hot topic in education. The questions is should we do testing or should we not do testing. I believe testing needs to be done. I do not believe in standardized testing though. When I was in elementary, high school and even college I always hated standardized testing. I do not feel it leads to the correct intelligence of the person taking it. For example when I was testing for college entry exams I always did poorly. I was placed in a lower class because of the testing. One professor even moved me to a higher class because I was to advance for the class.  Many students, myself included, have test anxiety, especially when it is timed.
I believe testing should be natural. In my classroom we do anecdotal note taking to "score" the children. I know this can not be done as the children get older but testing can be different in the classroom. First off, I think they should go away with timing the test. I believe if the timer is gone children will have less anxiety and do better on the test. Also teachers should look at other documentation for scoring then test. Children learn differently and teachers need to keep that in mind.
The country I picked to see how they asses their students was Germany. The reason I picked Germany is because I have a lot of German in me. I searched so many websites I could not find a lot of information on assessments in Germany. The information that I found was that they do assessments based on what are the children's needs. "In grades one and two, the focus is on direct observation of the pupils. In grade three pupils also begin to be familiarized with written class test and certain subjects"(BRIGITTE LOHMAR, 2013). In the first two years children get their reports at the end of each year. After that they get them at the end of the first half of year and then again at the end of year.

Childhood stress

People say they want to go back to being a child because they had no worries. Not everyone can say that. Some childrens life growing up was nothing they would ever go back to. I have a co-worker A. that had a rough childhood growing up. She was molested by three guy family members. She was removed into other family members houses but it would happen at that home too. Being molested is something that is very hard to deal with. She said the main thing that help her move on in life was going to church. There were two ladies that attended her church. She always went to them to talk to them. She started trusting adults again because of them. She lost trust in adults because her family would not do anything. Child protective services would be called in but would not do anything since she was being moved from house to house. They told A. that if she keeps saying the things that was happening that she would be put in a group home. She did not want to live in a group home. Another thing that help her cope with it was when she had her first son. She knew from the day he was born they she was not going to let anyone hurt him.
She has no embarrassment talking about what had happen to her when she was a child. She has used it to help others out. Before starting work as a teacher she worked in a drug rehab clinic. She told me a lot of the teenagers in the program started using drugs because they were abused as a young child. She was able to understand them because she had went through being abused. A. told the teenagers her story and they learned to trust her. She said she has helped a lot of the teenagers turn themselves around by sharing her story, That is why she offered to help me out with this assignment. She wants to help anyone that she can by getting her horrible experience out there. She hopes that people will hear what she went through as a child and step up and help. She wants the people who were abused when they were a child to know that they are not alone.
Child abuse happens all over the world. I choose to look at child abuse and other childhood stressors in China. China has already help lowers the number of children with no food, no clean water and health care. They are not working on lowering the numbers of violence, abuse, exploitation and trafficking. These are only some of the dangers for children in China. Violence happens in every country. Every country has different views on it. In China they is not a lot people can do to stop it. It is a considered a private issue. In China parents and teachers can use violence as a form of punishment. That is why it is considered a private issue. Such violence can lead to child abuse. Trafficking of children is also happening in China. They look at the trafficking as a form of child abuse and exploration. Law are being created but that is not the only thing that will help lower the rate. They officials also need to provide help to the children before it is to late.
What is being done to help lower the rate? UNICEF is trying to identify at-risk children. When they identify the at-risk children they provide better care and give them more community services.  How can you help? Visit http://www.unicef.cn/cn/ today and see how.

There are many concerns when it comes to public health. There are environmental concerns along with religious concerns. Some of these concerns are nutrition/malnutrition, immunization, healthy drinking water, sudden infant death syndrome, and breastfeeding. The topic that stands out for me is healthy drinking water.

I picked healthy drinking water because I am very picky about the water I drink. The water I drink has to be filtered. I will not drink tap water. I also need the water to be ice cold. I prefer the water with flavor shots in it. I also notice that I drink water faster if I have a straw. Then I got to thinking that I should not be that picky. There are millions that can not even drink the water that is near them and here I am saying I NEED to drink water this way. I should be happy with the way the water comes. Right?

In the developed countries there are only 10 million people without safe drinking water. Not just one country that is all of the developed countries. In Latin America and the Caribbean there are 32 million people with out safe drinking. In South, West and Central Asia there are 196 Million people with out safe drinking water. In Southeast, East Asia and Oceania there are 200 million people with out safe drinking water. You are probably thinking wow those are some high numbers, but what about Africa? Africa has 345 million people are without safe drinking water.

With 345 Million people without safe drinking water I thought I would dig in to why is the water in Africa so unsafe? Most of Africa just does not have access to water at all. When the small towns do have access to water it is contaminated. Water plants are not properly maintained because of funds. Africa does not do water testing as much as they should. Which is another reason they have unsafe water.

Shocking facts:
*3.4 million people die each year from a water related disease.
*780 million people lack access to clean water. That's more then two and half times the population of the      United States.
*The major illness is caused my fecal matter.
*Every 21 seconds a child dies from a water-related illness.

Math Time:
If one child dies every 21 seconds that means 2 children are die each minute. That means 171 children die each hour. That means 86,400 die each day.

The Birthing Experience-C. LaBonville Week 1

Giving birth is one of the most important and memorable day of a women's life. They finally get to meet their little bundle of joy. I have not had this moment of joy or been a part of someone else moment of joy. I will be sharing about my birth. I obviously do not remember this wonderful day but my mother has shared the moments with me. Most of my sibling before me were born by c-section. Once a C-Section is done that is how all births have to be done. The doctors wanted to schedule my mom on December 23 1987 for the surgery. My mother did not want to have surgery this close to Christmas since she had five other children at home to celebrate with. The doctors schedule the C-Section for December 18th. On December 16th the doctors were doing a Amniocentesis Test. The needle they were using hit my mothers abdomen. My mother told me that I did not agree this the needle. I caused her to go into labor, they sent my mom in to emergency C-Section. That was the day I was born. The best day of the year. ;)

Birth happens in every country. Though every country does it differently. I choose to research the birthing experience in Germany. I am going to start from when the mother goes to check-up appointments. Here in the United States the appointments are some what private. In Germany you go behind a screen  that is not very private and undress you self. Then you go out and sit in a chair for the doctor to examine you. Here in the United States you normally lay down. This chair has a slight recline but you are still face to face with the doctor and you can see everything they are doing. In the United States they prescribe medicines for women who need it for morning sickness. In Germany they recommend tea for any issues you are having. One of the most important things to do when having a baby is to pick a name. Here in the United States that parents choose and have the final say. In Germany you have to get it approve my the local register office. In Germany it is more common to have a mid-wife. Though this is not very common anymore in the United States they are becoming more common with in the recent years. For delivering women in Germany you can either have the baby in the hospital, birth homes, or in-home. In-home births are harder to find a mid-wife that will come to your home to deliver the baby.

My brother and sister-in-law was living in Germany when she was pregnant. Though they had the child in the United States when they moved back she had to go for check-ups in Germany. Her German doctor worked and shared information with her doctor in the United States. Since she live in Germany she told me about her experience while in Germany. "The biggest difference is they ultrasound at every appointment. They never listened to the heartbeat, just saw it on the ultrasound"(Dine,2014). One thing she mention that I did not find on the website was that they do not have nurses all you see are doctors and the administrator in the office. One thing I thought was interesting was that the doctor you see for prenatal care is not the same one you would birth your child. Though she did not give birth in Germany she was told she would of had a different doctor at the hospital. She did confirm that they prenatal vitamins are different then ours in the United States. She mostly bought her vitamins in the United States when she came back here to visit family. When she did have to buy them in Germany she had to get them behind the counter, not over the counter. The reason for this is because they do not put as much folic acid in their vitamins as the United States does.

The only similarity that I found that connected to my birth was having the baby in the hospital. I think part of that is because I do not know all the details of my birth. An insight that I have learned from this was that every country is different on the birthing process, there are not many similarities.

The following are from NAEYC code of ethics.

I-1.9
To advocate for and ensure that all children, including those with special needs, have access to the support services needed to be successful

This ethic is very important to my professional life because a lot of time special needs children go untouched. The early we can seek help for those children the better chance they have at being successful.

I-2.2
To develop relationships of mutual trust and create partnerships with the families we serve.

This ethic is very important to my professional life because families is what make us have a career. You should be there for the families on what ever they need.

I-3A.1
To establish and maintain relationships of respect, trust, confidentiality, collaboration and cooperation with co-workers.

This ethic is important to my professional career because your co-workers are the only ones that understand what you are going through professionally. They will be there for you when you need them and you should be there for them when they need you.

The following are from the DEC code of ethics.

I.1
We shall demonstrate in our behavior and language respect and appreciation for the unique value and human potential of each child.

This ethic is important to my professional career because every child is different. In order to form a bond with every child you need to understand and respect that they are different.

II.4
We shall support professionals new to the field by mentoring them in the practice of evidence and ethically based services.

This ethic is important to my professional career because I was new at one point, I had co-workers that were there for me. I would like to do the same for the new professionals.

III.6
We shall respect families' rights to choose or refuse early childhood special education or related services.

This ethic is important to my professional career because the parents are the children's first teacher. Even if we do not agree with them not getting the services we have to respect their wishes. They may not be ready to accept that is what the child needs.
